Fend for yourself, does it actually work?

October 10, 2020, the world is still in the clutch of the COVID-19. It has pushed even the most advanced health systems to their limits. But inside there lies one more serious epidemic and it is common within all human races around the globe. It’s not contagious likewise any disease or virus but, it develops within the humans itself and the most dangerous thing about it is, that it does not have any testing kit. Several kinds of researches are being followed at all levels, but still it’s becoming common within every human being. It gives you the poison of ‘continuous thinking’. Things get worse when you get to know that all age groups suffer this problem and that too at the same levels in proportion to their thinking capacity. And guess what? Working under your own steam is choking these individuals day by day. Yes, you understood it right, I am talking about ‘Mental Health’.

I hope you do not get a countercurrent reaction after reading it, but if you do, then it means you were not expecting such a dramatic and catchy introduction for such a minor problem right? For many people, it may appear as an overrated issue and that becomes one of the major reasons than whenever you get it, you are incapable to express it to others. You prefer to succumb under the dark never-ending problem rather than sharing it with others, as deep down you still believe that people won’t understand and think it as an overrated issue as you did in your honey period of life. Which is at some percent true.

So ultimately you are left with the only choice to fend for yourself! But the question arises does it fairly work? Some say social media may help to take care and provide for yourself without depending on anyone else. But it doesn’t work that way. So how can you feel disconnected from others when you are constantly able to connect through social media? Studies suggest that using social media apps to keep in touch with friends and forge off-line connections can add vitality and communion to your life. But if you are spending hours every day using these methods of communication as a substitute for real connection, your feelings of loneliness and inadequacy are likely to worsen. These are more often used within the aim of tracking other’s life. Furthermore, frequently viewing custard-ed posts of your connections in the social platform may end up giving you a feeling of comparison and obsessively low self-esteem.

It is suggested that Running, Jogging, Yoga, Travelling and watching movies, etc. may help. Yes, it may give good outcomes, but until when? It may not be a lifetime solution. And why so? It is as simple as accepting your fate and start to live under the conditions provided to you. It’s like you just got trapped into the cage, but you started building your new life inside the cage, rather than breaking it up and setting up free. So, conclusion comes up that fending yourself in case of loneliness does not work the way we think.

Studies have linked excessive ongoing feelings of poor mental health to difficulty in breathing, feeling of isolation, brain fog, stress, obsessive behaviors, etc. So, what can be done actually? As of till the fourth paragraph everything seems so negative and unprofitable. So, don’t worry, there is always a way out. George R.R. Martin in his book A Game of Thrones says.

“When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.”

Well, we all have heard it before very clear, but still never had thought the deeper meaning it may show us in our lonely times. We need to be in a pack like wolves, caring for each other in hard times. So, if you feel this way. Go out. Start a face-to-face conversation. Believe me. If you don’t respond instantly, it’s okay. It’s not stressful as those in online means. When you’re with someone who you can be comfortable with, silence is precious too. Just try to reconnect with your old friends, grab a coffee, and have a chat with them casually. You guys can even talk about all the silly things you did together in the past and understand how each other are doing now.

So, on this World Mental Health day remember “if you ever feel lonely or depressed, please do not pity yourself, go and communicate”.
