To believe or Not to believe

To believe or Not to believe

Snopes.com founded back in 1994 by a husband-wife duo (although their site has no mention of the wife anymore, after the nasty divorce) began as a project for finding the truth behind the urban legends that they had grown up with has become one of the largest fact-checking platforms on the internet.
So, with so much information and fake news floating around all the time how do they do it. How do they decide on which topics to write about and how to assign the “truth rating”?
After sorting out topics from the popular list the preliminary research to establish the real story is done by attempting to contact the source of the claim for elaboration and further information. Whenever possible they also try to contact individuals or organizations who might have knowledge or expertise in the department. So, there is a lot of work that goes into finding the truth behind anything. But that’s not all, after the facts have been put into place a rough draft is made which goes through a rigorous editing and reviewing procedure to present not only the truth but do so with an engaging story. And I think storytelling is one of their most strong fronts that sets them apart.
But when news about a site like this (which is being used by millions of journalists for fact-checking) comes that they might be conspiring with big giants like Monsanto to manipulate information and present a certain image to the public, it sounds fake, almost scandalous! So how do you trust a site that conveniently alters information for money?
Turns out you can’t believe anyone on the internet!
