Scientific significance of cow urine

Gomutra or Cow urine has a special significance in Indian tradition. cow urine is said to have a spiritual cleansing effect as well. cow urine has been described as the water of life or “Amritha” (beverages of immortality), the nectar of the god. “Panchagavya” is a combination of cow urine, milk, dung, ghee, and curd. Indian cow breeds are unique and distinct species, popularly known as “Kamdhenu” (one who can complete all wishes of mankind). In Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Vangbhat, described eight types of animal urines that can be used in medicine. Cow urine can relieve Kaphaja and Vataja disorders, those caused by worms, meda (excessive adiposity), arsha(piles), gulma (gaseous swelling of the abdomen), skin diseases including leprosy, shopha (swelling), Agnimandya (loss of appetite).
Though modern medicine has helped us to eradicate and cure several diseases of mankind and animals; but the existent of incurable diseases like cancer, AIDS, Diabetes, arthritis, side effects of allopathy medicine, increasing trends of antibiotic resistance and chemical and bio-pesticides causing dietary risk has made the situation more critical than ever before. Thus, it has become a matter of concern for the scientist and researcher to develop novel therapies. Cow urine is cost-effective, with the minimum adverse reaction when compared to modern medicine.
Chemical composition of cow urine is 95% of water, 2.5% of Urea 2.5% of minerals, salts, hormones and enzymes. the pH of cow urine is between 7.4 to 8.4 and specific gravity is between 1.025- 1.045. Cow urine contains nitrogen, Sulphur, phosphate, sodium, manganese, iron, silicon, chlorine, maleic, citric, tartaric and calcium salts, vitamin A, B, C, D, E, minerals, lactose, enzymes, creatinine, hormones. Gomutra can be stored in Gomutra Ark which is obtained from the distillation process of cow urine.
As we see earlier cow urine used to treat cancer patients as it has anti-cancer properties and for that US granted a patent in the field of cancer treatment by its virtues of bio enhancing activity of anti-cancer drugs. Urine therapy has tremendous potential in the field of medicine and has not been exploited to the extremes. It’s now time to made public awareness about important uses of cow urine therapy
Apart from high medicinal values, panchagavya is also used in agriculture, organic farming as natural manure pesticides, fertilizer, pest repellents, and alternate energy resources.
Also used as bio enhancer – increase the nitrogen content of the soil, better rearing of honey bees, Eco-friendly with no residual effects, acts as a potential therapeutic agent.
Cow urine as a therapeutic agent – it is excellent germinate and a potential antibiotic, Therefore, cow urine therapy destroys all the pathogenic organisms and if it is taken daily basis, it boosts immunity. Urine consumption improves immunity due to the presence of “Swarnkshar” and fastens wound healing process which is due to allantoin. cow urine can be used as bio-pesticide and bio-enhancer
Cow urine help in Maintaining homeostasis, it affects certain body functions by lowering cholesterol level, relieving tension, improving memory, enhancing the functioning of the liver, slowing the aging process, destroys toxic effects of medicinal residues of body.
At last, we can say, Go-mutra therapy provides rich and provocative research topics. Cow urine-based formulations would prove to be a potential medicine which in turn has scientific significance to reduce the pressure on the existing use of chemicals and antibiotics.
