GENDER INEQUALITY
Gender inequality in India refers to health, education, economic, political inequalities between men and women in India. Gender inequalities and its social causes impact India’s sex ratio, women health throughout their lifetime, and their attainment of the educational and economic condition.
Women are half of the world population, working in the two third of the working hours, receiving 10% of the world’s income owning, less than 1% of the world’s property.
Gender inequality is not only an issue for India but is also present all over the world. Let us understand this with the help of an example, only 3% of Fortune 500 companies have a female CEO. The share of women in FTSE 100 boards of directors remains stagnant at 12%. A quarter of all FTSE 100 boards are, in fact, still comprised of 100% men. No matter where you are, there are immense hurdles that women around the world have to face when it comes to career advancement.

Winner Deirdre Mullins, who shot to fame in the Channel 4 series Man Down, has spoken out against inequality within the film industry – blaming historical sexism for creating a culture that allowed stars such as Harvey Weinstein to get away with harassment of women.
The discussion highlighted that “baby factories” are pervasive in Nigeria. There, a woman is forced to give up her baby in exchange for very little money, and sometimes even forced to get pregnant for the sole purpose of using that baby to sell on the black market or as child labor. The insurgence of Boko Haram has given rise to atrocious practices like this, as well as forcing women to be sex slaves and suicide bombers.
Even man too faces the negatives of gender discrimination. While traveling in public transport, a woman is given priority when it comes to offering a seat. Even aged men suffer because of this. At many times complaints of harassment by men are unheard too whereas a small complaint from a woman against a man leads to grave consequence for a man.
The gender inequality is not a small issue. It is observed many times. When we asked a man whether you discriminate between man and woman, at that time he had said that no I don’t discriminate between men and women but when he goes to his home he will say to his wife to cook some food. If she said today, I am not feeling well and requests him to cook today or buy food from the hotel at that time he gets very angry and will say to his wife this is not my job this is your job. But the way he talks and the way he behaves with his wife implies that whenever we say something is wrong in society, we must try to change that thing. I will suggest that all men should first try to change themselves and check their actions, then only the change which we aim for will happen in society.
