NEED OF RESILIENT SUPPLY CHAIN

The worst affected part that we have seen amidst this crisis is the disruption of the supply chain that is right now the major concern for all the industrial key players. In a supply chain to ensure consistency, the forward linkage and backward linkage need to be strengthened. In keeping the linkages of supply chain bounded there is sheer interplay 3M’s i.e., Manpower, Material, and Movement. The sudden announcement of this lockdown has brought all kinds of movement to a halt, not only this, the compelling humane effect on the manpower, it’s not at ease to feel or imagine the plight of the daily wage laborers and the migrants who are staying far from family with no work. Though we can say that the lots of inventory stocks are there but not the manpower to make it reach to the right place.

From the point of view in industry or the agriculture restoration of the supply chain that too in a resilient manner is the need of the hour since most of the industries work on the principle of outsourcing so the right steps taken now can lead to hustle free operations in the future.

First thing that should be done is, to find suitable platforms like the Zomato, Swiggy etc…as even the recent initiative taken by many known outlets like the Dominos, in the urban, is appreciable, the database with them can be used to supply the essential commodities and the Public Distribution System(PDS) which caters the need of the lower strata they can also be exploited in a great way. To induce resilience, with the help of KVKs, Central and State Agricultural Universities extension Departments we can help the farmers in getting connected to the right buyers moreover, mapping of the industries which require the agriculture for raw materials should be done which can then be circulated to the KVKs and Agricultural universities thus ending up connecting the dots. As far as transport is concerned then state governments can do it by taking the help of those who are engaged in the state transport department by issuing the passes to them so that movement can be done.

The key challenge right now will be to restore the manpower in an organized and selective manner along with ensuring their safety because of that confidence is needed to work without fear. Thus, to kickstart the supply chain all core elements of it, need to be reshaped and rebooted, as the future lies in resilience.

RESTORATION WITH RESILIENCE CAN BE A DISGUISED BOON
