White Revolution 2.0: Empowering India’s Dairy Future through Women and Innovation 

The white revolution in India, which is also known as Operation Flood, was a transformative action launched by the Government in 1970 to enhance milk product in India. Thanks to this charge India is the largest milk producing country. India is the world’s largest milk patron, with 22 percent of global product, followed by the United States of America, Pakistan, China and Brazil. The top 5 milk- producing states are Uttar Pradesh( 15.72), Rajasthan( 14.44), Madhya Pradesh( 8.73), Gujarat( 7.49), and Andhra Pradesh( 6.70), which together contribute 53.08 of the country’s total milk product. In the 2022- 23 financial time, India’s total milk product reached 230.6 million metric tons.

India is set to make significant advancements in the dairy sector with the launch of “ White Revolution 2.0, ” blazoned by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. Under this action the government aims to increase the milk procurement by Dairy cooperatives societies by 50 over coming five times. The White Revolution 2.0 focuses on four crucial areas – empowering women growers, enhancing original milk product, strengthening dairy structure and boosting dairy exports. The dairy cooperatives will land one thousand lakh litre of milk daily by the end of the fifth time significantly enhancing the livelihoods of pastoral directors. The plan involves setting up and strengthening 100,000 new and being quarter collaborative societies, Ulti-purpose quarter collaborative societies, and multi-purpose PACS, which will be linked to milk routes with necessary structure. Mr. Shah said that according to the western conception, a woman is considered jobless indeed though she does all the work at home, adding that he disagrees with it. He said White Revolution 2.0 will help the addition of women engaged in procurement of milk in formal employment as the plutocrat will be deposited in their bank accounts. Maximum women are engaged in the dairy sector, generating business worth Rs 60,000 crore in Gujarat alone. The government is concentrated on enhancing women’s involvement in the dairy sector across multiple areas, aiming to empower them and grow in the assiduity The scheme aims to increase procurement led by cooperatives from the present 660 lakh litres per day to 1,000 lakh litres. The plan will make on being government schemes similar as the Dairy Processing and structure Development Fund( DIDF) and the National Programme for Dairy Development( NPDD)

Milk as the Top Food Expenditure in India:

THE Government’s rearmost Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) for 2022- 23 shows milk arising as India’s top food spend point, both in pastoral and civic areas. The yearly value of milk and dairy products consumed by an average person in pastoral India, at Rs 314, was ahead of vegetables (Rs 203), cereals (Rs 185), egg, fish and meat (Rs 185), fruits (Rs 140), comestible oil painting  (Rs 136), spices (Rs 113) and beats (Rs 76). The HCES data reveals the same for civic India milk (Rs 466), fruits (Rs 246), vegetables (Rs 245), cereals (Rs 235), egg, fish and meat (Rs 231), comestible oil painting (Rs 153), spices (Rs 138) and beats (Rs 90).

  To Increase Milk Productivity: 

The average yield is only 8.55 kg per animal per day for exotic/crossbred animals, and 3.44 kg/animal/day for indigenous animals. The yield in Punjab is 13.49 kg/ animal/ day (exotic/ crossbreed), but only 6.30 kg/ animal/ day in West Bengal.
